Gellman Part of Team Working to Block Viruses

Scientists develop better way to block viruses that cause childhood respiratory infections.

IPiB Prof Sam Gellman’s lab led a study, in collaboration with the lab of Anne Moscona and Matteo Porotto at Columbia University, to engineer a short chunk of protein, or peptide, that can prevent the attachment of human parainfluenza viruses to cells. Human parainfluenza viruses, or HPIVs, are the leading cause of childhood respiratory infections.
