IPiB Removes GRE Requirement from Admissions

The University of Wisconsin–Madison Integrated Program in Biochemistry (IPiB) — the joint graduate program of the departments of Biochemistry and Biomolecular Chemistry — has removed the GRE as a requirement for admission.

“After much discussion, the Integrated Program in Biochemistry is no longer going to require the GRE as a component of our admissions requirements,” says biochemistry professor Ivan Rayment, the chair of the IPiB Steering Committee. “We are joining the growing number of programs that recognize that the GRE does not correlate with the success of a graduate student. Indeed, it places some students at a disadvantage.”

All other admissions requirements remain the same. The change is effective immediately for students applying to join the program in the fall of 2019. For more information see the program’s About Us page.
